It’s always a pleasure being able to introduce a newcomer to the fashion market, especially when you can share their collection with your reader base and give the designer nice exposure to the fashion world.

A couple of days ago I received an email from Linda Ly, an aspiring new designer with a promising new line of bags. Linda worked as a model for nearly ten years, which helped her evolve her own sense of style, while her freelance work as a graphic artists helped in turning her visions into reality. After reading through her Manifesto, I already like this gal, her attitude seems right on the spot. Linda’s philosophy follows “style and substance”, which reflects in her bags. The emphasis of her bags lies both in practicality and every day use, as well as fashion & chic to stick out and impress. A fun detail to be mentioned is that Linda’s bags use lining featuring beautiful Japanese-motif prints (Kabuki Theatre, Buddha, Japanese sandals, etc.).

And because we are cool, and Linda is even cooler than us, she’s set up a whoopin’ 20% discount for our readers. Just enter MAYPB during the checkout!

Here’s a preview of Begeren’s Summer ‘06 line:

Henry Beguelin Star Tote

Henry Beguelin Star ToteI have never talked about Henry Beguelin here, but today I shall. While browsing the Neiman Marcus website I came across a handbag by this designer. Upon researching the brand a little, I learned in the early 80’s this brand was born by a group of friends creating belts and bags out of natural cowhide and recycled materials on the island of Elba. Now if you are not familiar with Elba, it is a beautiful island off of Italy (the kind of place you dream to go). There Henry Beguelin was born and today I bring you the Henry Beguelin Star Tote. This tote is roomy and emanates the idea of practicality using lush natural dark brown cowhide. Back leather trim lines the outside of the bag along with silver metal hardware and top handles with a shoulder strap. The shoulder strap is really great (especially if you are on an across body bag fix like I am). The horn closure and keeper adds detail to the bag. Finishing the bag off is the signature hand-stitched stick figure on front, which is so tiny on the bag but really adds a cute touch. Buy the bag via Neiman Marcus for $1195 and tell me if you think this new designer is a Yay or Nay.

Ecosist Eco-Friendly Luna Bar Wrapper Bags

On Thanksgiving Day we should all give thanks for what we have, including fresh air and a healthy environment and of course, the FEAST on our tables today ;-) . For our Eco-friendly readers, there is a special treat for you today. My mom, sister, and I are the biggest Luna Bar fans out there. These bars are wheat and dairy free (both ingredients I am allergic to) and taste amazing. Thanks to Ecoist many bags are being brought to us that are environmentally friendly, like the Ecoist Eco-Friendly Luna Bar Wrapper Bags. Ecoist explains that the ‘wrappers that are used are post-industrial waste, typically due to misprints or discontinuation of a line. They are made in Mexico and Peru by workers that are paid fair wages. Once the discarded wrappers arrive from the factories, they are cut, folded into straps, weaved, and sewn by skilled artisans. Each product is 100% handmade. Plus, for each bag that is purchased, Ecoist plants a tree through Trees for the Future.’ These bags are out of the ordinary but extraordinary in their eco-friendly design and fun wrapper appeal (especially Luna Bar due to my addiction!).

Top right we have the Luna Bar Jumbo Coin Pouch which is a mere $18 via Ecoist and is made with an array of Luna Bar wrappers sporting all the different flavors. The Coin Pouch is a perfect size for your ID, lip gloss, and cash while you are in a hurry. Next we have the Luna Bar Small Shoulder Bag which is made with blue Luna Bar wrappers and measures 9 x 4.5 inches. The shoulder bag is available through Ecoist for $58. And last, the Luna Bar Double Coiner works like a clutch and can be bought for $32 via Ecoist.

If Luna Bars are not your favorite, make sure you check out all of the other candy wrapper Ecoist handbags. Also, there is free shipping for the holidays on orders over $100. Make sure you enter freeship for the offer code during checkout at Ecoist.com.

Out with the old, in with the new. Vlad and I want to welcome 2007 to the Purse Blog and to all of you! We spent a low key evening together (after his 17 hour drive from Ohio to Ft Lauderdale, what a guy ;) ). With the start of double-0-7, there is an up and coming designer on the horizon. Young, ambitious, and the son of Bottega Veneta’s owners before Gucci Group took over, Gabriellecorto Moltedo. This 26-year-old is breaking into the scene with his launch of luxury accessories named so perfectly, Corto Moltedo. Ashlee Simpson Badgley Mischka Lolita Handbag

Ashlee Simpson Badgley Mischka Lolita Handbag

What a cute little enhanced by plastic surgery nose behind the hat! Ashlee Simpson continues to sport her new look, which completely resembles her big sis Jessica, but I must admit her choice in handbags is impeccable. Ashlee Simpson’s style has transformed over the years and her handbag style has completely matured into classy designer bags. Take the hot and new to the scene line by Badgley Mischka. Ashlee has taken a keen liking to the Lolita, which is also being carried by her sister. The Badgley Mischka Lolita Handbag intricately intertwines buttery soft leather along with soft and shiny python. While Ashlee sports the brown version, there is also a creamy and sultry ivory version which has an inner zip pocket and tassle detailing. Fitting in perfectly with the big bag trend, the bag measures 16 1/2″ w X 12″ L X 6″ deep. I have both good news and bad news. The bad news is this bag is out of stock at the moment, but the good news is that Badgley Mischka handbags are being carried at Lux Couture. Lux Couture is an amazing e-boutique which boasts impeccable customer service and carries an amazing array of bags. Check out the bag via Lux Couture to see if it is back in stock ($1045).

I always appreciate getting emails from designers about their new handbag lines. It is hard to find out about each new designer myself, so getting an email gives me the perfect heads up. This post is long over-due, but this is a new brand that offers a great selection of practical everyday handbags. Today I am introducing you to Catherine Adair Handbags, which were featured on The Rachel Ray Show on October 5th of this year. The designer behind Catherine Adair is Catherine, who goes by the name Cate. Cate is not new to the fashion world, having been the Emmy-nominated Costume Designer for the well-known series, Desperate Housewives. With an outreach like Desperate Housewives carries, Cate has been credited with influencing fashion trends in 203 countries. While you watch this series, you undoubtedly check out the designer outfits of the ladies (as I always have) and wonder who thinks it up and where you can get the outfits. Now Cate has branched into the handbag design world, offering extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, her designs are geared toward the multi-tasking woman. Right now her collection can be viewed online and is available in stores such as Fred Segal and Kitson.

cate adair pandora I was sent a handbag to try out and offer you all insight to this new line. Cate sent me the Pandora Tote, which falls under her Monterey collection. The bag offers a slightly western feel, yet the leather is very durable and the bag is over all practical. At times I may get a new bag to try out, and on paper it looks great, but it does not always translate. With Cate’s bags, this is not the case. The bag I was sent looks just as it does on paper, only it is better. My laptop fits in the bag perfectly, only peeking out of the top a little bit. While my lap top is heavy (aren’t they are?) but this bag’s deep dimensions are perfect for your lap top or other work essentials. My tan version is a great everyday color, but this bag is also available in black, espresso, and teal. There is also an east/west version of this bag, which is a shape I typically am drawn to, that is called the Verbena (also part of the Monterey collection).

Check out this new designers collection at Cate Adair online.

One of my first stops when looking for new designers in the handbag world is Lux Couture. Lux Couture, dubbed the haute spot for designer handbags, often introduces the work of new designers who ultimately make a name for themselves. The people behind the website, like the fabulous Sari Brown, are on top of the game. Sari introduced me to the stunning designs behind new designer Katherine Kwei, and it is evident with the meticulous craftsmanship and funky designs that these handbags are sure to be a hit. Lux Couture put together a fabulous bio for Kwei, which can be read below:

A former PR rep for luxury giant Louis Vuitton, Kwei was familiar with high-end skins and craftsmanship long before she started her own line. By drawing on her heritage and the tradition of Chinese knotting to make her modern luxury bags, Kwei gives her designs a special, personal quality (a far cry from what you find with her former employer??s logo covered totes). There??s no decorative bling or extras, it??s the intricate knotting that makes these bags so stunning. You might think so much handiwork would make her bags seem precious, but they look edgy and tough ?C a perfect representation of the modern woman who??s both feminine and strong.

Coming from a designer background, Kwei picked up on what the eye loves and hones in on her skill of knotting and crafting her materials to design stellar handbags. Available on Lux Couture right now are the Katherine Kwei Donna Clutch and the Katherine Kwei Teresa Hobo. The clutch uses shiny water snake with slit tactic to shape the material into strips and then is knotted at the bottom. The hobo is a treat for the eyes, featuring knotted strips of leather that are so precisely devised that the hardware can barely be seen by the eye. With the amount of time that must go into this handbags, the price is beyond reasonable. And the more I am looking at these handbags, the more I am falling in love.

Buy the clutch for $850 and the hobo for $700 at Lux Couture.
